We are always championing our Singapore food heroes on our food tours. But what about our drink heroes? Well this weekend we had a visit to Brass Lion Distillery in the West of Singapore.
Brass Lion Distillery was set up by Singaporean drinks enthusiast Jamie Koh in 2018. Set in the industrial estate of Alexandra it is not the easiest place to find. Once you arrive here it is well worth it. The building is a 2 story whitewashed old warehouse. It was actually a photography studio before Jamie took over. The team have done a great job in renovating the space.
Downstairs is the heart of the operation. This is where the copper still is housed that makes the gin. You can visit here on their distillery tour. Upstairs there is a bar area which is stylishly decked out to give it that old school Singapore feel. The distillery holds gin tasting sessions here which are popular for corporate groups.
Distil your own Gin at Brass Lion
If you want to go even further into gin exploration you can do a gin class. Here you get the chance to learn about how gin is made. You can taste the different botanicals that go into gin and learn about the distillation process. Finally you get to make your own unique bottle of gin. That’s right, you have your own distilling pot and your own ingredients. The whole process takes about 3 hours and at the end you have a bottle of your very own gin.
Supporting Singapore food and drink heroes after lockdown.
Our unique Singapore food tours are a great way to explore Singapore. We only ever visit local businesses and those with a real Singapore story to tell. Now that lockdown is coming to an end it is important that we support these local food and drink vendors. We will soon be launching a post lockdown food tour that will support some of our local hawker heroes. Watch this space for more details.
