This week Singabites is teaming up with our friends at Drinks and co and Winesave Asia. Everyday we’ll be matching a good bottle of wine with one of Singapore’s favourite local dishes. If you’d like to join in you can click on the links to buy the wine. And we’ll give you some recommendations for where to get the food. We hope you enjoy it.

A plate of chicken rice with some chilli sauce and ginger on the side.
Our national obsession. Chicken Rice.

Hainanese Chicken rice came to Singapore with the Hainanese workers in the early 1900’s. In those days the dish was a way to make the chicken flavour go further. It was seen as a dish for the poorer classes. Today we can’t walk down the street without seeing a chicken rice shop. It is one of Singapore’s favourite conversation starters, “Where’s the best chicken rice?”. On our food tours in Katong we visit 5 star chicken rice. Our favourite thing about this place are the condiments. The chilli sauce, ginger and dark sticky soy all go perfectly with the chicken rice. https://fivestarchickenrice.com/ to order yours today.

Drinks and Co Wine Recommendation

A bottle of Durvillea pinot noir.

This pinot has a bright garnet appearance. Cherries, forest fruits, strawberry conserve and spices explode on the taste buds. The wine has an intriguing earthy complexity. This pinot is medium bodied with cherry and plum flavours. It also pairs well with gamier meats so would be good with duck noodles or venison hot plate. Click here to purchase.
