Almost everyone who comes through Singapore tries a Singapore Sling. Many of our food tour guests ask us where to get the best version. It’s pretty much a given that the Raffles experience is the most popular. It’s probably not the best due to the masses of tourists. We recommend South Beach Bar or 28 Hong Kong Street for the real cocktail eficianados.
The Singapore sling was created by a bar man at the long bar in Raffles Hotel. At the start of the 20th Century when the British empire was in town, gin was all the rage. The bar man, Mr Ngiam, created the sling as a way for ladies to enjoy alcohol discreetly.
Today hundreds of tourists flock to the long bar to try this world famous tipple.
