Macritchie reservoir is a bit of a local favourite. The name suggests something a bit boring but it is actually more of a nature park. The reservoir itself is a hive of activity. You can hire kayaks and canoes and sometimes you will see dragon boat teams training.
Most of us like to head there early on a weekend or day off. You can fallow the nature trail around the lake that is about 13km long. If you go early enough you’ll see quite a lot of wildlife. Macaque monkeys are a popular site. You’re asked not to feed them for obvious reasons. Around the water you’ll be able to see birds such as kingfishers and ospreys. Some of the most popular residents are the land monitor lizards. These dinosaur like creatures aren’t dangerous but they look it. If provoked they will attack but they usually just like to stay out of the way. Snakes are always around but not often seen on the tracks. Most suprisingly there’s wild boar roaming around in the trees. Again rarely seen but they are there.
If you’d like to take a walk around the trail, make sure to wear good walking shoes and take a bottle of water with you.
