One of the best things to do in Singapore is take a day trip to Pulau Ubin. Pulau Ubin is an island off the east coast of Singapore. It is about a 10 minute, $4 ferry ride from Changi point. One of the main reasons people go to Pulau Ubin is to enjoy the nature walks. You also get a real sense of what Singapore used to be like. The old village or kampong is still inhabited today. The laid back lifestyle is a world away from mainland Singapore.
What to do when you visit Pulau Ubin
Most people that come to the island hire bikes. You can either take your own bike across on the ferry or hire a bike when you get there. There a plenty of bike shops in the small village where the ferry drops you off. The island is well signposted and it is easy to follow the paths to different places. There’s some look out points that you can climb up giving you a birds eye view of the area.
Pulau Ubins local residents
As well as a very friendly group of local humans you will also see a lot of wildlife on the island. Macaque monkeys are never far away so remember to keep your valuables in you bag. If you’re lucky you’ll spot wild boar roaming the jungle. Best not to get to close to them, especially if they have babies with them. There’s plenty of different bird species including quite a few hornbills and kingfishers. Along the shore look out for mud skippers and different types of crabs.
Lunch on Pulau Ubin
After you’ve finished exploring the island there will be ferries waiting throughout the day to take you back to the mainland. Many visitors choose to spend a lazy afternoon enjoying fresh seafood and cold beers at one of the village restaurants. As Pulau Ubin is a fishing village they have some of the best seafood in Singapore here. We’d recommend you stay and enjoy a leisurely lunch before your ferry home. The ferry will drop you back at Changi village. Check out the Little Island Brewing Company to the left of the ferry pier.
