This week Singabites is teaming up with our friends at Drinks and co and Winesave Asia. Everyday we’ll be matching a good bottle of wine with one of Singapore’s favourite local dishes. If you’d like to join in you can click on the links to buy the wine. And we’ll give you some recommendations for where to get the food. We hope you enjoy it.
A constant favourite of everyone who comes on our food tours is roti prata. First you have the theatre of our amazing prata chefs, then the crispness of the freshly cooked bread. Finally, and most importantly, the fish or veg curry sauce. In Hindi, roti means bread and pratha means flat. Across the causeway in Malaysia the dish is known as Roti Cannai which some say is a nod to it’s origins in Chennai, India. You will no doubt have a local prata stall nearby. One of our favourite places is Al Falah Barakah at 363 Joo Chiat road. They are open for takeaway during lockdown.
Drinks and Co Wine Recommendation
This pale Pinot Gris enjoys radiant green and yellow hues. There is a mouth filling burst of fruit in every sip. Pear, green apple, light spices and light flowers are pulled tight by refreshing acidity. This will counter the spiced punch of the curry sauce and add a refreshing cleanse to the palate after each bite. Click here to purchase.
