If you live in Singapore, or anywhere where there’s a big Indian population, you’ll know all about Indian sweets. These sugary delights are enjoyed all year round but especially on important occasions. Weddings, births, and of course Deepavali.

Everytime we are on a food tour in Little India we like to stop off at Moghul sweet shop. This little stall in the Little India arcade is a real favourite amongst our tour guests. Not to mention our tour guides.

What makes Moghul the best Indian sweet shop in Singapore?

Moghul is known island wide here in Singapore. It is regarded as one of the first shops to sell traditional Northern Indian sweets. Another thing to note is that the owner always uses fresh cow’s milk. As a result the product is extra sweet and buttery.

When we stop at Moghul on the tour most guests are straight to their cameras. Indian sweets are extra colourful. Edible silver and gold are common as is pink, yellow and green food colourings. One of the favourite sweets we try is the burfi. The main ingredients for this are condensed milk, sugar and ground pistachio nuts. The sweet is then topped off with edible silver. Another favourite with our food tour guests is the Jalabi. This is a flour batter that is deep fried before being soaked in sugar syrup.

If you are thinking that all this sounds very unhealthy then you are correct. But everything in moderation. We will always have these sweets towards the end of our tour in Little India. The reason for this is because it is a tradition to have something sweet in your mouth at the end. This way you will leave saying sweet things about your food tour and your Little India experience.
