Singabites first came into contact with Phoenix Hill Tea Merchant back in 2016. We were doing a corporate food tour for a large multi-national company.  We needed somewhere to have a tea tasting competition. Julie and Stephen, the owners were very accommodating. Ever since then we’ve been using them as a stop on our corporate and team building food tours.

Phoenix Hill tea merchant, is as the name suggests, a tea merchant. The owners are both Singaporean. They own a tea plantation in Shantou, Guangdong province in China. This area is particularly good for growing tea leaves. It is known as the home for Oolong tea. Phoenix Hill covers more than 100 acres.

Julie is always very excited to discuss her tea. The leaves themselves are always charcoal roasted. This is the traditional method and gives the tea its unique smell and taste. There are dozens and dozens of different teas to try in the shop. Most of their custom is actually wholesale. They also have a nice steady stream of local tea lovers who visit the shop and buy their leaves.

Julie runs tea tasting courses at the shop. She’s always great fun when we have our tea tasting competitions.

Tea and Durian???

Not to be outdone. Husband Stephen has a great reputation for his Durian’s  that he grown, up in Malaysia. Every durian season he always has some for our guests to try if they wish.
