One of the best things to do in Singapore is a visit to Raffles Hotel. The hotel is the first thing that comes to mind when many people think of Singapore. It’s the birthplace of the Singapore sling and the last place a tiger was shot on the island. The hotel was the headquarters of the Japanese army during the occupation of the second world war. It has played host to royalty and celebrities from all corners of the world.

Singabites secret tips for Raffles Hotel

Most visitors will make a beeline to the long bar. It’s here that you will find bus loads of tourists enjoying their Singapore sling. We recommend that you give the bar a miss. On the ground floor of the hotel situated underneath the palm trees is the courtyard bar. This has a much slower pace and is a perfect spot to enjoy your Singapore sling. Be prepared to pay a lot though. The hotel knows that everyone wants to have their photo taken here with a sling, so they can charge what they want.

Another Singabites tip is to take a walk around the first floor landing area. You can view the stunning gardens and admire the newly renovated hotel in all its glory. The hotel has just completed a major renovation and reopened in August 2019.

At the front of the hotel you will find the ever friendly door men. These Indian gentlemen are the mascots of Raffles. They are also the most photographed people in Singapore.

Singabites secret tip. Go for the Indian buffet at the Tiffin Room.

If you enjoy Indian food the Tiffin room next to the lobby is a must visit. This buffet style Indian restaurant is legendary in Singapore. The menu changes daily but there is always muligatawny soup on offer. Well worth a visit.
